Case Study: Harman Management Corporation

Powerful and cost-effective integration with Microsoft Dynamics AX

Harman Management Corporation (Harman’s) was previously using Lawson Payroll and HR, but faced raising costs for upgrades, maintenance and support. Their payroll administration costs had risen about 30% in the last 5 years, and they were concerned about the cost of maintaining Lawson in the future. A lack of integration between their systems for time, HR, Payroll and tax filing meant payroll reporting took additional hours every quarter. Harman’s decided to switch to Advanced Payroll AX to lower administrative costs, simplify tax reporting and increase system integration across their enterprise.

When the decision was made to implement the Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP, Harman’s needed a payroll solution for complex requirements that could seamlessly integrate with their new ERP. They turned to Advanced Payroll AX, the only Certified for Microsoft Dynamics (CfMD) AX global payroll software. For a smoother implementation, Harman’s contracted directly with LOKI Systems, the Microsoft gold-certified software vendor who developed the solution, for final design and go-live.

Harman’s leveraged Advanced Payroll’s integration with AX General Ledger and Bank to simplify reporting. They were able to easily integrate Advanced Payroll with Greenshades, allowing them to pass tax information to the state and federal governments electronically, and making it much easier for their Payroll Manager to handle tax reporting.

Advanced Payroll’s rule-based calculation engine allows Harman’s to administer requirements in multiple jurisdictions, like overtime rates or fringe benefits rules that differ by state. Because high turnover is common in the industry, the solution had to be able to easily on-board new employees into a set of rules. Harman’s could do this using Rule Groups in Advanced Payroll, with rules configured for time, earnings and entitlements.
